WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all citizens. JUSTICE, Social, Economic and political; LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all; FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation; IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT  AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders respect and treat everyone with courtesy. To my country and my people I pledge my devotion. In their well-being and prosperity alone lies my happiness.

O God, we ask you to bless our studies, our games, our interests and all that we do. Make us disciplined students. Give success to the work of our hands. Enlighten our minds, fill our hearts with love for you. Mould our hearts and our wills to destroy in us all evils of hatred, jealousy, anger, ill will and all that is bad in us. Give us the courage to fight against injustice, oppression of the poor and all social evils. Make us truthful and honest as we grow in our lives.

Give me an attentive mind, that I may concentrate on what I hear in class, a retentive mind, that I may not forget what I learn, an open mind to accept the truth, an eager mind to add something new to the store of my knowledge. This is my prayer to you today O God!

O God, my Father, thank you for the good night rest and the dawn of a new and bright day. Help me not to waste my time and not to miss any opportunities today. Help me all through the day always to obey and do what is right so that I may do nothing for which I would be sorry at the end of the day. Don’t let me miss any opportunities today – opportunities to learn something new, opportunities to make myself a little better and & little wiser than I am. Don’t let me quarrel with anyone today. All through today don’t let me forget you, so that whatever I do may be fit for you to see. All this I ask for your love sake.
